Welcome Break Trip 2020




Hi Everyone! 

My name is Katie DeNicola, I am a senior Psychology Major and Business and Italian double minor from Connecticut. I am one of the Break Trip Leaders this year and I am super excited to introduce you to our 2020 Discovery Trail Break Trip Blog.

This is my second time attending and I could not be more excited to be back! The central theme of this trip centers around understanding the way we see ability, a topic very near and dear to my heart among a variety of other topics. An incredible partnership with the Office of Disability Services and LEVEL alongside the help of some very special people here at Triple Play Farms and Rocky Creek Ranch has established this all accessible trip which, for the first time is mostly made up of students not in the group!

These past few days have been beyond what I could have imagined, and it has been really amazing to see how all the planning has come together.

Saturday morning, we were off to an early start as we left Villanova. With lots of fun, conversation and a few stops along the way we safely arrived at one of the sites we will be working at this week, Rocky Creek Ranch. We met Tracy, Erika and the team in addition to all the animals at the ranch including a lot of the dogs, horses and some mini donkeys. We ended the night with dinner at Brooklyn Boys Pizza and a quick reflection on our journey.

The next day, we got off to another early start. The group went on a quick Walmart run, stocking up on snacks, games and anything else we needed for the week. Next on the schedule was a fun day with Greg’s family, Joey and Gaylynn, at their beautiful home. They were beyond generous with their time and house making us a home cooked meal, showing us around their property and allowing us to learn a little bit more about them. All of us spent the day hanging out by the beautiful lake and telling riddles for hours which was one of my favorite moments because it was so spontaneous and genuine. But the day didn’t end there, a quick run to another site, Triple Play Farms where they hosted a dinner for us and some Nova Alumni. Our reflection around the fire was a perfect way to wrap up the day and set the tone for the amazing things that are coming.

I am super excited to get to know everyone and see where this week takes us!!!

Spend a couple minutes each day thinking of the little things everyone learned, the big things are easy to point out, its the small things that often make a difference in our lives, and on a learning trip like this.
