Zac Tipton:
My name is Zac Tipton. I am a Freshman communication major from Spearfish, South Dakota. I actually got a good sleep last night. I woke up feeling amazing. I got up, woke up Auggie and went and got breakfast, after fun conversations, a pre-reflection, and a fun drive to Triple Play Farms, we arrived to a beautiful day and greetings from the dogs. We got to meet the horses up close, in which I had a great time rubbing Leo and Casper, while throwing their hair all over my friends. We were divided into two groups to do fun activities that taught us about assumptions. We assume many things about people, and things. It was very fun to test those assumptions and learn new things. We got to create an obstacle course and help lead our horse around it. It was harder than we expected, and my group completely failed the first time, but the second time succeeded. We then went over to the mini-horse and had to get him to come in every space in the grid. It took us a while, but we eventually figured it out. After that and lunch, where I talked to Victoria and a few others and learned that I had a hidden talent, where I could tell the time by looking at the sun, we started working. Me, Ian, Victoria, Josh, Connor, and David all chose the trail work. We would clear the leaves and sticks from the trail, then dump mulch on it, and spread the mulch out. It was very hard work, but the end result was insane, and we were really proud of ourselves. We then left and while listening to “I Gotta Feeling” and “Magic,” we went to Buffalo Wild Wings, where Jordan, Victoria, and Bridget had the most amazing conversation about absolutely everything you can think of, and it was amazing. It was one of the best days I’ve had in a while.

Victoria Schmidt:
Hi, my name is Victoria and I am from New Jersey! Today we woke up and headed to Triple Play Farms for our first official day of work. I was super excited to get to spend more time with the horses as well as learn more about the group of people I am spending this week with. We began with two amazing activities led by Tracy and Morgan who are staff members guiding us throughout the week. The first activity required us to create an obstacle course for two horses to walk through. The second activity required us to lead a horse into particular sections of the field we were standing in. After some trial and error we figured out that working as a team was the best mechanism to guide a horse! After the hard work we enjoyed some lunch and went on to begin projects that would help renovate particular areas of the farm. I decided to head towards a nearby trail that we would be clearing and placing mulch. Although hard work, we had so much fun cleaning the trail. It was great to see how much we accomplished in such a small amount of time! I can’t wait to see what other progress we make in the next few days.
